Best Potential Innovation in the Last 60 Years?

From Slashdot yesterday:

"Researchers believe they have found a new compound that could finallykill the HIV/AIDS virus, not just slow it down as current treatments do. While most of the community is still hesitant to comment on this until it passes peer review, initial results show that their method attacks and kills ALL variations of the virus. A fast track through the FDA could have one of the world's leading problems licked in less than a decade."

Wow.  It's an exciting article to read.  The irony is that BYU has potentially discovered this cure to a disease which some conservative christians believe is God's punishment for, well, the sort of people that have AIDS.

Depression

The Seahawks lost.

I don't usually care this much about professional sports, but football is the one sport where I have teams I really support.  Ever since the loss, it's been very quiet.  Nobody is calling to taunt nor commiserate. 

To give you some idea of how long I've been a fan, I will share with you a class picture from that era.  Ok, two of them.

This is me in the first grade. 

I was probably too young to be a big football fan yet.  I specialized in playing hide and seek, as well as skipping school.  Yes, I ditched my first day of school when I was in the first grade.  I got caught and had my first (but far from last) experience with being grounded.  Yes, I was grounded for a week.  At six years old.

Now this is my third grade picture.  Note the wings.  Also note the thick blonde hair.  Both are long gone.

At this time, I started collecting football cards and watched every weekend.  I also learned what it meant to bet with the line and lose.  My step dad used to always bet me on football, and I'd take the team I liked best, rather than the one that would be favored.  My stepdad also made me give him points, so I couldn't figure out why my team won, but I lost the bet.

Good lessons, though.
